Arrows Acquire Biddle, Brown from Rugby ATL
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows announced today that the club has acquired utility back Rewita Biddle and lock Jordan Brown from Rugby ATL in exchange for a 2024 international player slot and salary cap considerations.
Biddle, 25, featured in 13 matches (12 starts) for Rugby ATL in 2023, scoring four tries and kicking three conversions and two penalty goals throughout his first season in Major League Rugby. He added a team-high 1,213 carry metres on 94 carries, 29 defenders beaten, 11 offloads and six linebreaks across his debut campaign.
Known for his creativity and explosive pace, the versatile Kiwi can play up and down the back line; the five-foot-eleven, 180-pound back can comfortably slot in at fly-half, centre, wing, and fullback.
Prior to moving Stateside, Biddle enjoyed stints with Western Australia Rugby Union side Palmyra and Russian Rugby Championship club Slava Moscow. He also featured for the All Blacks Sevens in 2019.
Brown, 22, is also coming off his first MLR campaign, appearing in six matches (three starts) and scoring once for Rugby ATL last season. The Australian lineout threat also chipped in 67 carry metres on 14 carries, 43 tackles and 75 ruck arrivals.
The six-foot-seven, 260-pound forward previously suited up for Shute Shield sides Southern Districts and Gordon, and is a graduate of Leeds Beckett University in England’s BUCS Super Rugby competition.
“Rewita and Jordan are two young, dynamic players who we’re excited to be adding to our club,” said Tim Matthews, Toronto Arrows Vice President and General Manager. “With the way we’re looking to assemble our roster in 2024 and beyond, this international duo will fit in quite well in terms of complementing our core domestic players and filling key positional needs.”
“Rewita is coming off a standout debut season in Major League Rugby, and is the kind of player that gets fans out of their seats every time he touches the ball. He brings x-factor and positional flexibility to our lineup.”
“Jordan is an imposing, hard-running lock who at 22 years of age is a talent on the rise. He adds size and grit to our pack and inserts an extra dimension to our set piece.”
The club will be making additional signing announcements in the coming months as 2024 season preparations continue to build.
