Toronto Arrows Announce Return of Lynott, Signing of Braude
For Immediate Release
TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce two signings to bolster the squad ahead of the 2021 Major League Rugby season.
The club is excited to confirm that Pat Lynott will return for the team’s upcoming campaign, and that the prop will be joined by the Canada-eligible scrum-half Ross Braude.
Ross Braude
Scrum-half | Pretoria, South Africa
Braude joins the Arrows from Super Rugby’s Bulls, where the 20-year-old scrum-half helped lead the Pretorian club’s age-grade sides to under-19 and under-21 championships in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
The Canada-eligible back, who qualifies for the red and white through his Canadian father, previously represented the South African under-18 sevens team before opting for Canada as his test future. Braude’s first involvement with Canada’s national program came this past November at the 36-player national team camp in Langford, B.C., where he and 12 other Arrows players assembled at the Al Charron National Training Centre for three weeks of high-performance training.
As a student, Braude captained the prestigious Grey College 1st XV— a school that has produced more than 45 future Springboks – and twice represented Free State in the iconic Craven Week schoolboys tournament.
Pat Lynott
Prop | Chelsea, Quebec
Arrow #31
Lynott featured in four matches in the shortened 2020 campaign, and has made 14 appearances over his two seasons with the club. The flame-haired forward completed 38 tackles and accrued 80 carry metres on 17 carries throughout the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
The 5’10”, 240-pound prop is a graduate of the Ontario Blues senior men’s provincial program and the Queen’s Gaels post-secondary program, and played his grassroots rugby with the Bytown Blues (Eastern Ontario Rugby Union).
“Pat is quickly coming into his own as an MLR player and will be a big part of our tight-five this year,” said Arrows Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Mark Winokur. “He is a strong athlete and has ramped up quickly in the past couple of years. We are excited to see what he can bring in 2021.”
“Ross is a dynamic young player who qualifies for Canada through his Montreal-born father. He was outstanding at the national camp in November and has a big future ahead of him. Despite being such a young player, he brings a high level of professionalism and possesses the x-factor of someone well beyond his years.”
Toronto has now signed 35 players ahead of the club’s 2021 MLR campaign.
The Arrows will begin their third campaign in North America’s top-flight professional rugby league with a road match against Rugby ATL on Saturday, Mar. 20, 2021.
