14 January 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce that Dan Moor has been appointed club captain and Lucas Rumball has been named club vice captain for the club’s 2020 Major League Rugby season.
Moor, 29, made 17 appearances for the Arrows in the club’s inaugural MLR campaign, earning 2019 All-MLR 2nd XV Team honours. The 14-cap international wing ran for a team-high 1,092 metres carried, scored a team-high seven tries, completed a team-high 10 offloads.
The Toronto native also completed 126 tackles and earned an 84% tackle completion rate in his first professional season.
Rumball, 24, appeared in six matches for the Arrows in 2019 after spending the bulk of the first half of the season away on international duty, and was ruled out for the tail end of the campaign following a season-ending knee injury. The 35-cap international flanker completed 94 tackles and put up a 95% tackle completion rate in his shortened season, marking the eighth-highest rate in the league.
Despite limited action in 2019, the product of Scarborough, Ont. still managed to run for 265 metres carried, complete eight offloads (second-highest total on the team), and add a try.
Both Moor and Rumball served as club co-captains in 2019.
Arrows Director of Rugby Chris Silverthorn:
“Congratulations to Dan and Lucas on their captaincy appointments. Both players are genuine and intelligent men, and have earned the respect of their peers and teammates with their strong determination and dedication to their craft.
“Dan and Lucas are the type of player that others want to play for, and are no strangers to leadership roles, having captained our side throughout 2019. Their professional approach has set the tone for our team culture, and both Dan and Lucas will carry those same leadership qualities into the 2020 MLR season.”
Arrows Captain Dan Moor:
“Serving as the captain of the Toronto Arrows for this season is a great honour, and a responsibility that I don’t take lightly. I want to do everything in my power to ensure I am leading this team to the best of my abilities – leading from the front in work ethic and desire, inspiring in moments of challenge and pushing this group to be the best it can be.
“It means an incredible amount to me because this is such a special group of men and I feel very fortunate to call them my teammates. More broadly, to represent my hometown of Toronto on the biggest professional stage in North America is a tremendous privilege. We have big aspirations for the upcoming season – to win an MLR championship – and I think we have a group with the character and ability to be up for the challenge.”
Arrows Vice Captain Lucas Rumball:
“It’s a huge honour to serve in a leadership role with this team. To have the respect of my teammates, coaching staff, management, and ownership, and is a responsibility I take with great appreciation, and I want to be someone they can rely on both on and off the pitch.
“While we were proud of earning a spot in the semi-finals in our first season in Major League Rugby, we aren’t resting on our laurels. We’re aiming higher this year, and with the strong character found up and down our roster, we’re going to push each other to get the most out of ourselves. We’re champing at the bit to get started.”
The Arrows will begin their second campaign in North America’s top-flight professional rugby league with a road match against the Austin Herd on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020. Following seven consecutive matches played away from Toronto, the club will play seven of its final nine matches at home between April 4 and May 31 to close out its sophomore MLR regular season.
