Toronto Arrows Announce Academy Program Details
16 September 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce that the club will launch its academy program in January 2020.
The non-residential Toronto Arrows Academy will operate in two main training areas next year, with locations based both east and west of the Greater Toronto Area.
The program will be overseen by Arrows coach Cory Hector.
“The launch of the Toronto Arrows Academy allows us to capitalize on the tremendous amount of quality rugby being played in and around our province, which we feel is a significant competitive advantage for our organization,” said Hector. “The goal of our academy is to identify and develop the next wave of Arrows players and lead the league in homegrown domestic talent.”
The decentralized program will minimize barriers to train and will concentrate on developing players capable of featuring for the Arrows in the near future.
“The Toronto Arrows Academy will provide a great opportunity for players and coaches in the educational and club development pathway to engage with the Arrows,” said Arrows Vice President and General Manager Mark Winokur. “Our province is rich in playing and coaching talent, and this program will help provide identified individuals with the on-field and off-field development necessary to make the leap into a fully-professional environment.”
The Academy will participate in a limited schedule of games in spring 2020, with fixtures planned with other Major League Rugby academy program sides and/or Canadian U23 sides.
Further details surrounding the Toronto Arrows Academy will be announced in the coming weeks.
