Toronto Arrows Announce 2020 Pre-Season Plans
23 December 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce a pair of pre-season events as the club continues preparations for its upcoming 2020 Major League Rugby campaign.
Following several weeks of pre-season training sessions in Toronto, the Arrows will travel to the warmer climes of Las Vegas in mid-January to participate in a mini-camp; the club’s Nevada sojourn will culminate with a friendly against the Utah Warriors on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020. The pre-season clash will kick off at 4 p.m. ET* / 1 p.m. PT*, and also serves as a Sin City tune-up ahead of the league’s marquee MLR Vegas Weekend on Feb. 15 & 16, 2020. Spectator details, including venue confirmation, will be announced in the coming days.
For the second year running, Toronto will also head down the Queen Elizabeth Way for a controlled scrimmage with Rugby United New York. The dry run will once again be held at the Buffalo Bills’ practice facility – the ADPRO Sports Training Center – in Orchard Park, NY, and will begin at noon. There will be no admission fee to attend the scrimmage, though space is limited for spectators and standing room will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“This will be a more robust pre-season than last year, but we feel we are better prepared now than we were at this point last season, and playing two strong MLR rivals will give us a good look at where we are ahead of the upcoming season,” said Arrows Vice President and General Manager Mark Winokur. “While our meeting with RUNY will be more of a joint training session than a traditional exhibition match, we can use the opportunity to address areas to work on ahead of the season without focusing solely on the result. Buffalo was a fun day out last year and will be more so this year, and Vegas will be a great getaway as we ramp up our pre-season training schedule ahead of the season opener in February.”
The Arrows will begin their second campaign in North America’s top-flight professional rugby league with a road match against the Austin Herd on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020. Following seven consecutive matches played away from Toronto, the club will play seven of its final nine matches at home between April 4 and May 31 to close out its sophomore MLR regular season.
