Toronto Arrows Announce Additional 2023 Senior Team Staff
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TORONTO, ON – Following the club’s recent 2023 coaching staff announcement, the Toronto Arrows are pleased to confirm the Senior Team’s full staff for the upcoming Major League Rugby season.
Alex Lee, the club’s incoming Head of Performance, joins the Arrows from English side Ealing Trailfinders. He gained previous experience in performance, sports science, and strength and conditioning roles with England Rugby, Richmond Rugby, and London Welsh. Lee is also familiar with the Canadian rugby landscape, having recently consulted for Rugby Canada’s sevens program at several HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournaments and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Richard Owen, the team’s new Head Performance Analyst, arrives at the club from the Welsh Rugby Union, where his analysis portfolio included the Welsh national senior women’s team, the Welsh Premiership, and the National Schools and Colleges League.
Both Lee and Owen will hold dual roles with Rugby Canada, supporting Canada’s national women’s, men’s and age-grade programs.
Shane Cahill, the club’s incoming Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach, comes to Toronto after six years of serving as the Director of Education for the sports performance and fitness education firm Athletic Performance Education Company. He also enjoyed a seven-year professional playing career in England, featuring for Doncaster Knights, Rotherham Titans, Cornish Pirates, and London Welsh between 2009 and 2015.
Returning team staff include Head Team Physician Dr. John Gillis, Team Manager Neil MacDougall, Head Athletic Therapist Scott Shannon, and Director of Player Development Chris Silverthorn.
Additional new staff members include Senior Team Physiotherapist Chris Chan and Academy Athletic Therapist Terri Jones.
“As part of our organizational growth and development, we’ve added several individuals that have a wealth of experience gained at top professional and international levels, and they’ve joined our strong stable of returning staff members,” said Tim Matthews, Toronto Arrows Vice President and General Manager. “We’ve built out a well-rounded group that’s equipped to help our team achieve success both on and off the field.”
The club will begin its fifth season in North America’s top-flight professional rugby league with a road match against Rugby ATL on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023.
