STARTING XV: ONTARIO ARROWS NAME LINEUP FOR INTERNATIONAL CLASH WITH GLENDALE RAPTORS
Ontario Arrows head coach Chris Silverthorn has named his starting lineup for Sunday’s home match against Major League Rugby Championship finalists Glendale Raptors.
The Arrows will run out an experienced, all-Canadian side against the Raptors at Toronto’s York Lions Stadium, with Silverthorn selecting eight full Canadian internationals and four Canada Sevens internationals for the cross-border match.
“It’s been a fantastic week of training leading up to this match,” said Silverthorn. “While we have a few players in this squad who are new to the Arrows, most of these guys have either played together on Canadian sides or within the Canadian Rugby Championship, so the adjustment period has been quick. This is a young side, but one with plenty of strong international experience.”
The Arrows are looking to build on their impressive spring campaign, which will see the club hunting for a fourth consecutive exhibition season victory against American opponents. Ontario holds a 3-1-1 record against USA-based opposition this year, having racked up a victory over MLR side Utah Warriors, a pair of wins against the Mystics, and a draw against MLR’s Houston SaberCats.
“Glendale is sending a strong squad up to Toronto for our match, and will undoubtedly be looking to show off the speed and physicality that allowed them to have such a successful first MLR season,” Silverthorn added. “This has all the makings of a high-tempo, exciting match, and we’ll be bringing an energy that’s up for the challenge. Just like earlier this season, fans can expect 80 minutes of full-value rugby. We want to set the tone for the 2019 season, and beyond.”
– Coe, Hammond, Keith, and Mullins will make their Arrows debuts, while Di Nardo, Ng and Sears-Duru are in contention to make their club debuts off the substitutes’ bench
– Eight squad members are full Canadian internationals: Brouwer (9 caps), Ciulini (8 caps), Coe (7 caps), Ferguson (11 caps), Keith (9 caps), Lloyd (7 caps), Parfrey (25 matches), Sears-Duru (42 caps)
– Four squad members are full Canada Sevens internationals: Coe, Hammond, Mullins, Parfrey
– Eleven squad members are Canada Under-20 program grads: Ciulini (2015), Coe (2015, 2016), Ferguson (2012), Hammond (2012, 2013), Milazzo (2016), Mullins (2013, 2014), Ng (2017), Parfrey (2010, 2011), Richardson (2016), Quattrin (2016), and Sears-Duru (2013, 2014)
Sunday’s match will be played at York Lions Stadium at York University, and will kick off at 1 p.m. EDT. Tickets are available online for $25, as well as at the gate on matchday for $30. Youth (12 and under) can enjoy free admission.
