
Toronto Arrows Announce Return of Greater Toronto Area Trio

TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce a seventh group of significant signings ahead of the 2022 Major League Rugby season.
The club is excited to confirm that scrum-half Andrew Ferguson, wing John Sheridan, and loose forward Marcello Wainwright are returning for the upcoming campaign.
Andrew Ferguson
Scrum-half | Mississauga, Ontario

Ferguson, 29, returns to the Arrows for a fourth season having featured in 29 matches (19 starts) for the team since 2019, marking the highest appearance total amongst backs in club history.
The 5’10”, 190lb scrum-half has produced 464 carry metres on 79 carries, 1,227 passes, 105 tackles (85.4% completion), 16 tackle breaks, 15 offloads, eight tries, seven linebreaks, and one breakdown steal over his three years with the club. He’s also added 2,432 kicking metres and four conversions via the boot, bringing his point tally to 48.
Ferguson has earned 10 caps for Canada since making his international debut against the United States in February 2016. He also represented Canada at both the 2011 and 2012 World Rugby Under-20 Trophy tournaments.
The half-back is a graduate of the Ontario Blues senior men’s provincial program and the McMaster Marauders post-secondary program, and played his grassroots rugby with the Oakville Crusaders.
John Sheridan

Sheridan, 27, is back for a fourth campaign with the Arrows after making 13 appearances (10 starts) since starting with the club in its inaugural season.
The 5’11”, 200lb wing’s career totals include 412 carry metres on 47 carries, 37 tackles, six tackle breaks, five linebreaks, two tries, two offloads, and one breakdown steal.
Sheridan is a graduate of the Ontario Blues senior men’s provincial program and the Guelph Gryphons and Humber Hawks post-secondary programs, and played his grassroots rugby with the Markham Irish.
Marcello Wainwright

Wainwright, 25, has committed for a fourth campaign with the Arrows after making 19 appearances (10 starts) since the club’s first season in MLR.
Comfortable playing across the back row, the 5’11”, 215lb forward has posted 448 carry metres on 84 carries, 165 tackles (91.2% completion), six offloads, two tries, one tackle break, and one breakdown steal throughout his MLR career.
The hometown loose forward has featured for the Canada Maple Leafs Sevens national development program, is a graduate of the Ontario Blues senior men’s provincial program and the Guelph Gryphons post-secondary program, and played his grassroots rugby with the Toronto Scottish and Toronto Saracens.
Wainwright is also a player ambassador for club partner organization Toronto Inner-City Rugby Foundation, a Toronto-based, rugby-centred community nonprofit that uses rugby as a tool for social good.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Andrew, John and Marcello back for their fourth seasons with the club,” said Mark Winokur, Toronto Arrows Chief Operating Officer and General Manager. “All three players are products of the Ontario Blues provincial program, Ontario universities, and Ontario grassroots clubs, and have been with our team since the very beginning. They’ve enjoyed the highs and have grown stronger following the lows over our eventful first three years in Major League Rugby. All three are Arrows through and through, and are part of the fabric of our organization.”
The Arrows have now signed 26 players ahead of the club’s 2022 MLR campaign.
The club will be making additional signing announcements in the coming weeks as 2022 season preparations continue to build.
