Toronto Arrows Announce Signings of Foley, Janlin, Stevenson for 2021 Final Stretch
For Immediate Release
TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce the signings of Ireland under-20 grad Ronan Foley, French-Canadian prop Alexandre Janlin, and Ontario Blues-developed lock Hank Stevenson for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season.
Foley and Janlin arrive via Europe, while Stevenson joins the club on loan from the Utah Warriors.
With nine Arrows players recently named to Canada’s roster for the national union’s upcoming July tour, along with the expectation that three players will be selected to Uruguay’s squad, the team has continued to add to its squad depth as it completes its campaign abroad.
Ronan Foley
No. 8 / Flanker | Dublin, Ireland
Foley, 22, joins the Arrows following a successful spell with his hometown club University College Dublin of the All-Ireland League. The back row stalwart joined UCD’s under-20 program in 2016, and was promoted to the senior side as an under-ager one year later.
Awarded the Club Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season in 2017-2018, Foley captained UCD in the club’s pandemic-shortened 2020-2021 campaign.
The 6’2” forward represented Ireland at the 2018 Six Nations Under 20s Championship, has featured for Leinster ‘A’, and earned one cap with Leinster’s senior side in 2019.
As a Canadian passport holder, Foley will be designated as a domestic player.
Alexandre Janlin
Prop | Auch, France
Janlin, 26, arrives at the Arrows from Federale 1 club RC Auch in the south of France. The prop has helped guide his hometown team to two promotions since joining the fledgling side in 2017.
The 6’2” forward is a graduate of Stade Toulousain’s renowned senior age-grade program.
As a Canadian passport holder, Janlin will be designated as a domestic player.
Hank Stevenson
Lock | Toronto, Ontario
Stevenson, 21, comes to the Arrows on loan from Western Conference MLR side Utah Warriors.
The 6’5” second row is a graduate of Rugby Canada’s Maple Leafs Sevens development program, and represented the red and white as a member of the nation’s Youth Commonwealth Games sevens team in 2017 and its under-20 touring team in 2019.
Stevenson is also a graduate of the Ontario Blues senior men’s provincial program, is a current economics student at Wilfrid Laurier University, and played his grassroots rugby with the Toronto Nomads.
“Challenging situations make for creative solutions, and we are very happy to have found some Canadian talent that can help us down the stretch,” said Mark Winokur, Toronto Arrows Chief Operating Officer and General Manager. “Alex, Ronan and Henry are all keen to dive into the team environment and help out, and we can’t ask for anything more. It helps that all three are talented Canadian players who will make us more competitive over the last quarter of the season.”
The Arrows have four matches remaining in their third campaign in North America’s top-flight professional rugby league, with all fixtures to be played in the club’s temporary home of Atlanta.
