Toronto Arrows Sign Canada U20 & Montauban Academy Grad Bowman
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce the signing of hometown centre Liam Bowman for the remainder of the 2023 Major League Rugby season.
Bowman, 21, arrives at the club from French side Montauban, where the midfielder has been developing within the Pro D2 club’s Espoirs program since 2021.
“We’re pleased to welcome Liam back home,” said Tim Matthews, Toronto Arrows Vice President and General Manager. “He’s an exciting young athlete with a tremendous amount of potential, and is a player we’ve been keeping tabs on for some time.”
“Liam just wrapped up his second season as a member of Montauban’s academy, and after a couple of years developing his game abroad, we know he’s keen to begin making his mark here in North America.”
The six-foot-one, 210-pound back represented Canada at the World Rugby Under-20 Canada Conference tournament held in Guelph, Ont., last August, serving as team captain. He was also selected to the national under-20 program’s touring side in 2020.
Bowman previously donned the Maple Leaf with the national under-18 program – a side he also captained – in 2019. Later that year, he participated in the World School Sevens competition in New Zealand with the Canadian Misfits team, where he competed against his future Arrows teammate Nic Benn.
Prior to departing for France, Bowman spent a year with Rugby Canada’s Pacific Pride national development program.
“After three years playing away from home, I’m really looking forward to coming back to Toronto and playing my rugby in front of family and friends,” said Bowman. “I know several of the boys already from my time playing for Canada, the Pacific Pride, and club rugby here in Ontario, and it’ll be great to see them again, as well as meet all my new teammates.”
“I can’t wait to get stuck in with them and give my best.”
The Oakville, Ont. native played his grassroots rugby with his local Oakville Crusaders.
