Toronto Arrows Announce Signing of Canada-Eligible Scrum-Half Grant
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce the signing of Canada-eligible scrum-half Will Grant for the 2023 Major League Rugby season.
Grant, 23, will arrive at the club from Australian side West Harbour, where the halfback has been plying his trade in the Shute Shield.
“While it’s a pretty new competition, Major League Rugby has got all the bells and whistles to it and is really on the up and up,” said Grant. “I’m bloody excited to get the opportunity to come to Canada to play for the Arrows, and to dip my toe in the water.”
“I can’t wait to get to Toronto and play some good footie with a great group of boys.”
The five-foot-nine, 170-pound scrum-half just completed his first campaign with the Pirates, starting all 16 matches he featured in throughout the 2022 season and scoring three tries.
Prior to returning to Australia to play in the Shute Shield, Grant spent three seasons with Northland in New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship, where he featured in 16 games for the Whangarei-based side.
Hailing from Rouchel, Australia – a small town of about 150 residents located 300km north of Sydney – Grant spends his off-seasons back home, working on the family’s cattle farm.
“I’m a small-town bloke, and I’d by lying if I said it wasn’t going to be a big jump coming across, but from everything I’ve heard, Toronto is a fantastic city to live and work in. I can’t wait to experience it and take it all in.”
Grant will be designated as a domestic player through his Canadian eligibility, as his maternal grandmother was born and raised in British Columbia before settling in Australia.
“We are excited to find Will, who is Canada-eligible and brings a quick, determined brand of play to a valuable position,” said Mark Winokur, Toronto Arrows Chief Operating Officer and General Manager. “We can’t wait to see the impact he can make.”
The club will be making additional signing announcements in the coming weeks as 2023 season preparations continue to build.
The window to place a deposit to secure 2023 season memberships for the lowest possible price is now open. Packages for the club’s home matches at York Lions Stadium start at just $70 for a limited time only; early bird pricing ends on November 28, with 2023 pricing going into effect on November 29.
