Toronto Arrows Announce Signing of Canadian International Back Webster
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce the signing of Canadian international wing / fullback Brock Webster.
Webster, 21, arrives at the club after earning his first senior caps for Canada as part of the national side’s Rugby World Cup qualifying campaign late last year. The versatile back appeared in five matches for Canada last autumn, highlighted by a memorable debut performance in a victorious effort against the United States in St. John’s that featured a full-field intercept try.
The six-foot, 180-pound emerging talent also has experience on the World Rugby Sevens Series, featuring in three tournaments for Canada over the past three years. Webster debuted on the circuit as an 18-year-old at the 2019 Sydney Sevens, and after a brief spell away from the seven-a-side format, he returned to compete in back-to-back Dubai Sevens tournaments to kick off the 2021-2022 season. He’s scored one try in 13 Series matches.
“Brock is an outstanding young Ontario product with a big future in the game, both in sevens and fifteens, and he is a great add for us given some of our early-season injury challenges,” said Mark Winokur, Toronto Arrows Chief Operating Officer and General Manager. “We look forward to seeing him make an impression on MLR right away.”
Webster’s additional national team selections include featuring for Canada at the 2019 World Rugby Under-20 Trophy in Brazil, the Maple Leafs Sevens national development program on the two-legged South American tour in early 2019, Canada ‘A’ at the 2018 Americas Pacific Challenge, Canada’s under-18 sevens team at the 2018 Auckland School Sevens, and Canada’s sevens entry at the 2017 Youth Commonwealth Games.
He was named Rugby Canada’s Young Player of the Year, Male in 2018.
Most recently, Webster has featured for Rugby Canada’s national development academy side – the Pacific Pride – in British Columbia’s Premier Division.
The back is a graduate of the Ontario Blues junior men’s provincial program and played his grassroots rugby with the Oshawa Vikings.
