1-800-GOT-JUNK? Launches Rugby-Friendly Employment Program
Aspiring rugby players, stop us if you’ve been in this scenario before: you’re all set to head out to weeknight training, hit the gym for a morning lift, or hop in the car for your match on a Saturday afternoon, when your phone starts ringing. Yup, it’s your boss… again.
“We need you to come in.”
You hate having to miss rugby, but work is, well, work. You wish you didn’t have to choose between the two.
Balancing a job with a rigours of a full rugby schedule isn’t easy. But what if it could be easier?
1-800-GOT-JUNK?, the presenting partner of the Toronto Arrows Academy, is pleased to announce a solution for aspiring rugby players: its Rugby-Friendly Employment program.
The Canadian leader in residential and commercial junk removal has long been committed to supporting rugby athletes off the pitch; the company is a preferred employer for post-secondary, amateur and professional rugby players looking for opportunities that fit their requirements as high-performance athletes.
We had an opportunity to chat with Darcy Longpre, a Franchise Partner with 1-800-GOTJUNK?, to learn a little bit more about the company’s Rugby-Friendly Employment program and how it can assist rugby players looking for fulfilling employment that complements their athletic ambitions.
What is the Rugby-Friendly Employment program?
DL: Rugby-Friendly Employment is unique to our organization in that we are willing to help aspiring rugby players achieve their goals in the sport of rugby by offering them work opportunities that are not in conflict with game and practice schedules. Our client availability allows us to help our rugby players attain full-time hours while also making sure they are fresh for games and practices.
In laymen’s terms, if our staff let us know their rugby schedule in advance, we will commit to providing shifts on non-rugby days.
What kind of work opportunities do 1-800-GOT-JUNK? offer?
DL: We are currently looking for Truck Team Members (TTMs) to augment our current staff. As TTMs become more familiar with the organization and progress in their career development, they can become team leads, trainers and hold other management positions at the franchise level. They can be considered for corporate positions as well.
Why does 1-800-GOT-JUNK? want rugby players as employees?
DL: Rugby players are team players at heart, and this is a tenet our organization embraces. The job is physical and requires a level of mental toughness, and we all know that rugby players are tough.
Rugby is a sport that is near and dear to my heart, and I want to be able to help the sport grow by making sure rugby players do not have to choose between work or rugby. Many employers are not flexible in that regard.
How can I grow my career at 1-800-GOT-JUNK?
DL: Our business teaches our employees customer service experience, as well as how to run a small business. Each crew goes out on a daily basis and runs a micro-business. We teach our team members how to assess and run the business in a profitable manner.
We have an aggressive profit-share system that allows our TTMs to share in the spoils of a job well done. We track metrics and we use them to help our employees grow and develop as professionals.
Where in Ontario can I work for 1-800-GOT-JUNK?
DL: 1-800-GOT-JUNK? is active provide-wide, and therefore has a need for TTMs in almost every major centre across Ontario.
We have positions available in Ottawa, Kingston, Peterborough, Bowmanville, Port Perry, Toronto, Barrie, Orangeville, Hamilton, Guelph, and London, among others.
Who should I contact if I want to learn more about the Rugby-Friendly Employment program and if I want to start working for 1-800-GOT-JUNK?
DL: Please don’t hesitate to reach out to [email protected] for more information. We look forward to connecting with aspiring rugby players who are looking for a role that supports both their professional and athletic goals.
