Ferguson Ruled Out for Remainder of 2022 Season with Hamstring Tear
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows confirmed today that scrum-half Andrew Ferguson will be forced to miss the rest of the 2022 Major League Rugby season due to a torn hamstring.
Ferguson sustained the injury during the club’s season-opening match in Seattle on February 6.
There was initial hope that an in-season recovery would be possible through non-surgical treatment. However, following an MRI that revealed the severity of the injury, Ferguson will require season-ending surgery to correct the issue.
“Obviously, this isn’t the way I saw this season playing out,” said Ferguson. “This is a special team where the guys make showing up to work every day so enjoyable. Although it’s disappointing that I can’t be on the field competing with my teammates this season, I will still be supporting the team and the guys every way I can.”
“This is a very good team with the potential to do some incredible things this year. I can’t wait for our home games to start in April for our fans to experience this once again.”
Ferguson has featured in 30 matches (19 starts) for the team since 2019, marking the highest appearance total amongst backs in club history.
The five-foot-ten, 190-pound scrum-half has produced 464 carry metres on 79 carries, 1,231 passes, 106 tackles (85.5% completion), 16 tackle breaks, 15 offloads, eight tries, seven linebreaks, and one breakdown steal over his four years with the club. He’s also added four conversions, bringing his point tally to 48.
The native of Mississauga, Ontario has earned 10 caps for Canada since making his international debut against the United States in February 2016. He also represented Canada at both the 2011 and 2012 World Rugby Under-20 Trophy tournaments.
