Arrows Announced as Title Sponsor of 2021 Canadian University Men’s Championship
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KINGSTON, ON – The Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championship is pleased to announce the Toronto Arrows as its title sponsor for the 2021 edition of the competition to be held at Queen’s University from November 24-28, 2021.
The tournament, which will officially be known as the Toronto Arrows Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championship, presented by Lougheed Wealth Management – Raymond James in 2021, pits representative universities from British Columbia, the Prairies, Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic provinces in an eight-team, 12-game competition to win the Spence McTavish Cup, emblematic of the top university men’s rugby 15s team in Canada.
“The Toronto Arrows are proud to be part of this important and exciting tournament as part of our organization’s commitment to the development of Canadian players,” said Bill Webb, Toronto Arrows President and General Partner. “We acknowledge the importance of University rugby to the progress of senior rugby for both men and women in Canada.”
“Nearly half of our 2021 senior roster – upwards of 20 players – honed their skills in Canadian University programs on their development pathway,” added Webb, who also serves as a member of the CUMRC Board of Directors. “The pipeline of talent emerging from Canadian Universities is getting stronger and stronger, evidenced by the fact that all three of our draft picks in the 2021 Major League Rugby Collegiate Draft came out of Canadian University programs. Events like these encourage and showcase our country’s top young players, and we’re pleased to continue supporting the advancement of Canadian rugby.”
“The Arrows have been a strong, continued sponsor of the CUMRC since our start,” said Jeff Chan, CUMRC Co-founder and Chairman. “Bill has been a great partner on our Board, and various members of his staff have been strong supporters of our event and will again help judge the play at the 2021 tournament to select the men of the match in all 12 matches, as well as the tournament first and second XVs.”
Thirty-four universities from across Canada have embarked on their 2021 seasons with the aim of winning their conference or regional championships, which will secure qualification as one of the seven teams joining host Queen’s University as participants in the 2021 Toronto Arrows Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championship, presented by Lougheed Wealth Management – Raymond James.
