The 24-year-old has earned 25 caps for Uruguay since debuting in 2017, and featured for his national team at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, notably scoring a key try for Los Teros in their famous win over Fiji.
This marks the Montevideo native’s first call-up to the national team since the conclusion of the 2020 Major League Rugby season; Diana started all five matches in his debut season with the Arrows, and made an immediate impact following his move from South America, leading the team in both carries (59) and carry metres (286). The tenacious forward also scored two tries in his first MLR campaign, and added 33 tackles (86.8% completion), five offloads, three tackle breaks, and a linebreak.
Seventeen professionals were included in Uruguay’s roster announcement; MLR is also represented through the selection of Diego Magno (Houston SaberCats).
Uruguay will kick off its South American Championship with a meeting against Brazil on October 17, followed by matches against Chile on October 21 and the Argentina XV on October 25.
