Arrows Gearing Up for Controlled Scrimmage with RUNY
Following the club’s victorious start to its 2020 pre-season — earning a convincing 33-5 win over the Utah Warriors in Las Vegas on Saturday, Jan. 18 — Toronto’s focus now shifts to Saturday’s controlled scrimmage with Rugby United New York.
The joint training session will be held at the Buffalo Bills’ practice facility – the ADPRO Sports Training Center – in Orchard Park, NY (1 Bills Dr.), with the controlled scrimmage beginning at approximately 1 p.m. and ending at 3 p.m.
There will be no admission fee to attend the scrimmage, though space is limited for spectators and standing room will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
All fans both north and south of the border are welcome to have a meet-and-greet with our players following the training session, and join us at Kettles (3719 Abbott Rd., Orchard Park, NY) for a post-scrimmage social.
“This is a great chance for both teams to work on things that need sharpening ahead of a very competitive season,” said Arrows Vice President and General Manager Mark Winokur. “We were pleased with our first pre-season game last weekend in Las Vegas, but know we have lots to do to get ready for our season opener, and there’s no better way to do that than an intense session with RUNY.
“When you look at last year, with both teams splitting the season series and RUNY claiming the two-game point edge 44-43, both are sides are so even. It’s a perfect way to measure where we’re at coming into the season. The Buffalo fans are always great to engage with and we’re looking forward to a fun day out.”
The Arrows will begin their second campaign in North America’s top-flight professional rugby league with a road match against the Austin Herd on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020. Following seven consecutive matches played away from Toronto, the club will play seven of its final nine matches at home between April 4 and May 31 to close out its sophomore MLR regular season.
