Arrows Academy to Face Crusaders XV in Oakville on Saturday
TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows have announced an update to its Senior Academy match this upcoming weekend.
With the New England Free Jacks withdrawing their academy side from the scheduled match earlier this week, the young Arrows will now face an Oakville Crusaders XV side at Crusaders Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon.
“The Arrows organization would like to thank the Crusaders for stepping up to ensure this Saturday’s Academy match will continue as originally planned,” said Mark Winokur, Toronto Arrows Chief Operating Officer and General Manager. “Crusaders Rugby Park has been a regular fall training site of ours, and the club has been a great partner to our organization for several years. We’re looking forward to returning to Oakville this weekend for a fantastic day of rugby.”
“It’s very exciting that there’s strong purpose for club rugby in Ontario, and that in times of need we can chip in and aid in the development for these up-and-coming players,” said Kevin Brenders, Crusaders Director of Junior Rugby. “We’re looking forward to welcoming the Arrows back to our club, and to put on a competitive fixture that’s beneficial for both sides.”
Saturday’s match will kick off at 4:30 p.m., and will be open and free of charge for spectators to attend.
The Arrows Academy’s 2022 campaign kicked off in early February, with under-18 to under-23 athletes training regularly at two regional sites in Ontario (Guelph, Kingston) and one in Quebec (Montreal).
The program then played its first two matches of its inaugural season when the young side travelled to Boston to take on the New England Independents on March 12, followed by a trip to New York to face the Foundry on May 1.
Looking ahead, the Arrows Academy will participate in the inaugural Coast to Coast Cup in Halifax later this month; the young Arrows will face hosts Atlantic Selects on May 28, followed by a tilt with the Canada West Selects on May 31.
