Moor Announces Retirement from Professional Rugby

24 June 2020

TORONTO, ON – Toronto Arrows club captain Dan Moor has officially announced his retirement from professional rugby today, following a memorable playing career that spanned several years, continents, and pathways.

“I would like to thank Bill Webb, the ownership group and the entire Toronto Arrows organization for the incredible opportunities and experiences they presented to me,” said Moor. “It was a dream come true to pull on the jersey of a professional rugby team in my hometown, and I am truly grateful for those memories.”

“To lead this group of players – a group of people I hold in such high regard – has truly been one of the highlights of my life. I look forward to crossing the white line and joining our passionate fanbase in the stands next season. Arrows up!”

The 29-year-old Toronto native originally signed for his hometown club from Yorkshire Carnegie of the RFU Championship in December 2018, shortly ahead of the Arrows’ inaugural season in Major League Rugby.

Upon joining the Arrows, the winger quickly established himself as one of the most dangerous and well-respected players in North America’s top flight; Moor finished his debut season ranked ninth in the league in tries scored (7) and linebreaks (11), and was awarded with All-MLR Second XV honours.

Under his sound leadership and consistent play, Moor helped guide the Arrows to an 11-5 record in the team’s first MLR campaign – highlighted by a memorable seven-match win streak to close out the 2019 regular season – ensuring the club was able to secure a post-season berth.

Over his two seasons with the club, Moor became the franchise leader in several statistical categories: minutes played (1,574), tries scored (11), carry metres (1,345), tackle breaks (11), and offloads (11). He’s also ranked second in all-time carries (168) and linebreaks (13), third in appearances (21), and fourth in dominant tackles (13) across the club.

“Dan has been a total professional as a member of our club, even dating back several years to our amateur days as the Ontario Blues in the Canadian Rugby Championship,” said Arrows Vice President and General Manager Mark Winokur. “Dan’s work ethic, dedication to his craft, and leadership abilities have meant quite a lot to this team in our first two years in Major League Rugby, and we will miss his on-field play just as much. We are delighted he has agreed to join our club’s advisory team, and his continued involvement will only stand to benefit our club for several years to come.”

“We wish Dan the best of luck in his future endeavors off the pitch, and we thank him for leaving our club with a strong culture of professionalism and brotherhood. As a result of the hard work that Dan has put in, we can be assured that his teammates will step up to fill his shoes and meet the high standards that he has set, both as a player and a leader.”

A product of the Rugby Ontario club and representative system, Moor won several MacTier Cups and McCormick Cups with the Ontario Blues and Balmy Beach, respectively. The wing also enjoyed a memorable international career for Canada, scoring four tries over 14 matches in 2016 and 2017.

A graduate of Queen’s University and former captain of the Gaels, Moor also competed for Oxford University prior to joining Yorkshire Carnegie, notably winning a Blue in the iconic Varsity Match against Cambridge in 2017.

Moor will continue to reside in Toronto, and plans to stay involved in the game in his home city.
